Indiana Pacers Become First US Sports Team To Feature QR Code On Jerseys

The Indiana Pacers of the NBA recently teamed up with Fishers-based tech startup Spokenote to feature QR codes on the front of their jerseys.

The first-of-its-kind partnership will give fans access to unique, never-seen-before Pacers’ content which can be scanned through game photos or live at games.

The deal also includes large Spokenote decals at each baseline of the Pacer’s home court.

What Is Spokenote?

Spokenote, founded by John Wechsler, is a tech startup that allows people to record and share embedded videos on small stickers.

The stickers can be sent through the mail with well-wishes on birthday cards or left around the house as video reminders for household chores.

The company also provides software to large organizations such as universities that enables video messages in direct mailings.

Wechsler also started Launch Fishers in the basement of Hamilton East Public Library in 2012 and the Internet of Things in 2018.

In 2023 he stepped down as CEO of both businesses to start Spokenote, which is headquartered in Fishers, Indiana.

The Pacers owners have invested in Spokenote, but the amount of the investment hasn’t been revealed.

Wechsler also stated he has been contacted by professional football and baseball teams about sponsorships.

The team debuted the jerseys featuring the new patch last night at home versus the Milwaukee Bucks.

The terms and length of the deal were not disclosed.
